ABOUT OUR MONSTERA DELICIOSA
Hello, I’m Monty the Monstera deliciosa but people call me the Swiss cheese plant - it’s because of the unusual holey nature of my leaves. I’m often referred to as the ’monster plant’ but don’t be afraid of me, I’m a nice guy really and a great beginner indoor plant: low maintenance and one of the fastest growing houseplants around. Yep I can do it all! I’m pretty hard to kill plant unless you place me in a room with no windows or you overwater me.
I’ve been admired by indoor plant owners for some time now. I came originally from the tropical forests of Mexico and South America and grow so quickly that I’m considered invasive in my home countries. Me? Invasive? I couldn’t believe it either. I’m a natural climber which is why you can buy me with or without a moss pole to grow up. If you treat me right, then I could turn your home into a real life jungle with my unique Swiss Cheese plant leaves.
My incredible leaves are so unique, I definitely deserve a prime spot in your home for all to enjoy. My goal is to add a touch of the tropics in your home. Have I tempted you yet to add another houseplant to your collection?

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED
How do I care for a Monstera?
If you’re new to plants, the Monstera is your guy. In fact, all of the Monstera gang are easy to care for plants. Like most houseplants he is used to a warm tropical climate and is very tolerant of the summer heat. If possible, keep the Swiss Cheese plant in a room warmer than 18°C.
How much light does a Swiss cheese plant need?
The Monstera is an easy plant to care for as they don’t fuss over their lighting conditions. He’ll grow better - and acquire the distinctive holes in his leaves - in the summer if he has plenty of sunlight to enjoy, but avoid putting him in direct sunlight, as this can scorch him. The Swiss Cheese plant will also tolerate medium light when the days are shorter and darker.
How often do I water my Monstera?
A weekly water in the summer should do the trick for most houseplants including the Monstera. Even less water in the winter months is perfect as the Swiss cheese plant doesn’t like to sit in soggy soil. Make sure the first couple inches of soil are dry before you water your Monstera again. A light mist a couple of times a week will keep his foliage fresh and will help reduce any brown edges.
PLANT STYLING TIPS
The Monstera is a statement plant and his luscious tropical leaves deserve to be centre stage. Place him in your living room or kitchen where he can be appreciated the most. He can also be styled in a variety of ways: as a natural climber, he will happily grow up your walls if you let him (he can manage up to 10 metres tall in the wild!) and you can encourage his upward growth with a moss pole.
Alternatively, you can propagate his overgrown stems by taking cutting and using them as an added touch of style around the home. Find out how to propagate here (propagation and pruning blog)
